Passion for Action

Our Sustainability Plan

Passion for Action, the Environmental Education Action Programs Society (EEAP) and Gobi Carbon Management Solutions are highly environmentally and socially responsible organizations that are committed to advancing sustainability. We are in the business of providing programs and tools that focus on sustainable community development. We support business, organizations and individuals to discover the potential they have to move towards more environmentally sustainable practices and develop programs and tools to coordinate action.

We recognize the importance of role modeling desired behaviours; therefore we seek to “be the change we wish to see in the world”. We have developed a comprehensive set of goals that encompass a variety of actions that we conceive will help to contribute to a more sustainable future for all. We review these goals on a bi-annual basis to ensure that we are keeping on track and to review the rdreamstime_2106104 plan.jpgelevancy of our stated actions within our present knowledge base. The actions we have committed to below represent those of both Passion for Action and Gobi as the organizations share infrastructure and support staff.

Our goals include:

  • Zero-waste achievement
  • Reduction of employee vehicular commuting by 50%
  • Implement a Green and Energy efficient IT framework
  • Measure, report, and reduce carbon footprint
  • Adopt a procurement policy for employees and suppliers
  • Meeting energy efficiency and conservation targets

We (Passion for Action, EEAP and Gobi) are purposely designed as virtual organizations, hence we do not maintain a formal office environment. We use the latest communication and information sharing technologies to facilitate our business initiatives. Benefits include:

  • Reduction in energy use and emissions related to dedicated office space and to and from the work location commuting.
  • Providing for a more flexible work environment and life balance for employees. 
  • We actively discourage the use of personal vehicles where at all possible and encourage, through our culture, peer pressure, and a transit and bike use benefit plan bike and transit commuting to and from client and team meeting locations. In 2011 we logged 8,400 km personal vehicle use for business and team meeting commuting, 10,500 km on transit and 6,000 km bicycling and walking.In 2013 we aim to reduce our personal vehicle commuting percentage from its current 17% to 10% of all ground business and employee commuting travel.
  • We utilize Gobi carbon management tools to manage our emissions. Our measured GHG emission for 2012 per employee was 780 kg including Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 (paper, garbage, business travel and employee commuting). While our emissions are very low for a business within our industry, we will be endeavoring to reduce our footprint per employee by 10% by 2013.

We believe sustainability is a journey, not a destination. With a view towards a sustainable future, we are always striving to adopt best practices and to be cognizant of a constantly changing environment.
